Ask, Listen, Learn: Empowering kids to say “NO”
Description
Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix is Responsibility.org’s free interactive educational underage drinking prevention program for kids ages 9-13 and their parents and educators. This session will discuss the need for prevention efforts at the elementary and middle school levels and how coalitions can utilize Ask, Listen, Learn’s free underage drinking and underage cannabis use prevention resources in their efforts with parents and in schools.
This webinar is provided at no cost. PF! will be applying for Prevention CEUs and CHES hours. The prevention education domain for this session is: P2- Prevention Education & Service Delivery
Training Objectives
- Using recent data on underage drinking and underage cannabis use as well as science on adolescent brain development, participants will be able to understand the importance of early prevention efforts for children ages 9-13 upon completion of the session.
- By the end of the session, participants will have the knowledge and skills to successfully implement two of Ask, Listen, Learn’s evidence-based curricular resources in their school-based underage drinking and underage cannabis use prevention efforts.
- Upon conclusion of the session, participants will have the knowledge and skills to successfully incorporate three Ask, Listen, Learn parent resources into their coalition’s underage drinking and underage cannabis prevention messaging and outreach efforts.
- Based on information and statistics presented during the session, participants will be able to evaluate their existing underage drinking and underage cannabis use prevention efforts and formulate plans for integrating Ask, Listen, Learn resources into those efforts.

Tom Grane, M.S., is the Director of Educational Programs at Responsibility.org where he manages education programming to fulfill the organization’s missions to eliminate underage drinking and promote responsible decision-making regarding alcohol. Tom holds a Master of Science degree in educational psychology from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Science in secondary education from Penn State University. Prior to his role at Responsibility.org, he taught high school, worked in student services at a community college, and developed resources as an education content developer at a not-for-profit organization.
Leticia Barr, M.S., serves as an Educational Advisory Board member for Responsibility.org. She has taught elementary and middle school for Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland but spent most of her career with the school system providing technology professional development to teachers. Leticia holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Tufts University and a Master of Science degree in School Administration and Technology Leadership. She is also the founder of the award-winning technology, education, and parenting blog, TechSavvyMama.com, and mother of two college students.
